Strategic Decarbonization is a framework for transitioning existing building energy systems away from fossil fuels through long term planning, the integration of energy efficiency measures with natural asset replacement cycles, and the systematic creation of investment value while mitigating transition risk. This session will examine  case studies from leading building owners and emerging programmatic models, analyzing the conditions under which Strategic Decarbonization has been successfully applied at scale. It will further explore the delivery structures, financial mechanisms, and value propositions that enable comprehensive decarbonization across commercial real estate portfolios, with implications for policy, practice, and curriculum development in the built environment sector.
